When does it end?

Ok my question here is how do we determine the "end" of an RPG.

For all the games going I am assuming its when your character dies but there has to be an end point before then. Because I can't see myself playing these for the next 30 years, as I wait for my character to die of old age.

Why not?

But seriously, some of them have a preset ending, some are more open. Of course it all the players die in game, it would likely end as well unless there were a good reason for it to continue.

I can see the ending to the contemporary game we got going (Its obviously you get rescued) and the Historic (The next pilgrimage comes). Fantasy is where I don't see an end in any way. The game could go on forever potentially.

Each game is a story, each story has an ending. They will end when appropriate for the story.

No way it could go on forever. Think about the storyline. You're looking for a dragon and some demons who attacked a small village. You really think that will take forever?
